The Performance Instructional Specialist serves as part of Eagle Rock’s instructional team. The position includes creating and delivering innovative curriculum through a school-wide music and performance program that offers a variety of learning experiences both in and outside of the classroom This position also is responsible for stewarding the care of the facilities and resources in the department.
The successful Performance candidate will possess experience teaching high school music and performance with a wide variety of course designs and program models; experience in Big Picture, Expeditionary Learning, or similar progressive school models; experience with competency-based and interdisciplinary curriculum design; a commitment to experiential education, project-based learning, and the creative process. In addition, candidates will have experience working with English Language Learners, as well as the ability to differentiate for students with a wide range of learning styles and needs; experience supporting students with reading and writing interventions informed by academic data.
Specific to this instructional area, the successful candidate for this position will possess the following attributes: Advanced skills in vocal technique; advanced skills in piano including ability to play contemporary and popular music, as well as the ability to read written music; advanced skills in music theory and ear training; advanced skills in American contemporary and popular music performance; ability to teach a variety of instruments, primarily, but not limited to: voice, piano, guitar, bass, and drums; ability to teach acting technique and direct a theater production team; basic understanding of technical theater: lighting design, sound design, set construction, props, and costumes; ability to teach non-Western music, with knowledge of Latin music and ability to speak Spanish preferred; ability to teach basic digital music and sound recording software.

Curriculum:
Commitment to and embodiment of creating a campus wide culture of belonging, competency based curriculum, and ERS instructional values
Collaborate across departments to develop, implement, and refine an innovative performance program that centers and empowers students
Develop culturally responsive and differentiated curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices that support a diverse range of learners
Steward department budget, facilities, inventory, and resources
Mentor/supervise/coach a teaching fellow each year as part of our licensure program; continue to grow coaching practices
Student Support:
Build a toolbox of practices to support adolescents in their personal and academic growth
Support students in leveraging strengths to overcome academic challenges, including 1:1 meetings and small group tutoring
Participate in internal professional development to better support students
School-Wide Involvement:
Participate as an active member of one of the residential house teams including mentoring students through advisory
Co-create and deliver engaging student programming opportunities as part of an evening program team; regularly work one night a week on this team and with students
Engage in weekend programming and supervision of students through the rotating weekend staff schedule
Perform other duties related to being an active community member at ERS including advisories, community meetings, service projects, house team participation, and other community events
Be open to working as a residential Houseparent should the need arise. On campus housing is not guaranteed.

Qualifications:
BA/BS or equivalent experience required
MA/MS or equivalent experience preferred
License in teaching Music/Performance preferred
Strong speaking, writing, and teaching skills
Experience teaching in mixed ability classrooms
Extensive experience working with adolescents
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Commitment to personal and professional growth
Experience living and working in a residential setting preferred
