Xavier High School seeks a part time Music Recording teacher for the 2026-2027 school year.

Xavier High School is searching for a motivated and collaborative teacher to join our mission driven team of educators. As a Xavier faculty member, you will be responsible for teaching talented young men from diverse backgrounds and means to take responsibility, lead with integrity, act justly, serve others, and pursue excellence in an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory environment in New York City. Your responsibilities will include lesson planning, classroom management, grading assignments, evaluating students’ progress, curriculum development and co-curricular leadership.
The ideal candidate should be a competent professional with in-depth knowledge of the subject matter, an openness to growth, a commitment to the art and craft of teaching, and an understanding of professional boundaries and appropriate conduct. In addition to having excellent written and verbal communication skills, an attractive candidate will also meet the following criteria.
Bachelor’s degree in music or a relevant field.
2+ years of teaching experience preferred.
Strong organizational and classroom management abilities.
Developed interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a team environment.
Enthusiasm for the work of education in a Catholic, Jesuit context.
A flexible work schedule to accommodate the rotating schedule of classes.
A description of the class can be found below:
Recording provides students with an introduction to modern music creation, recording, production, and live sound engineering. Students will explore the technology, equipment, and techniques used in professional recording studios and live performance environments, including microphones, audio interfaces, MIDI, signal flow, mixing consoles, PA systems, and digital audio workstations (DAWs). Through hands-on projects, students will learn how to compose, arrange, record, edit, mix, and produce original music using both acoustic and digital tools.
The course emphasizes creativity, technical proficiency, and collaborative musicianship while introducing students to industry-standard production and live audio practices. Students will develop skills in songwriting, MIDI sequencing, audio recording, editing, mixing, session organization, and live sound reinforcement for concerts and performances. Topics will include microphone placement for live ensembles, monitor mixes, front-of-house sound operation, feedback prevention, and basic live event setup.
Students will also gain an understanding of music distribution, copyright, publishing, and the process of releasing music to modern digital platforms. Throughout the course, students will engage in individual and group production projects that culminate in the creation, recording, and presentation of an original musical work or live performance project.
We are looking for a part time teacher to begin in September. Competitive salary is commensurate with experience.
