The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 100% effort for the Fall Term 2026. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026 and end on December 31, 2026.
Lecturers attend required performances (usually weekend evenings); lead three discussion sections (meeting for one hour on each Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 AM, 10-11 AM, & 12-1 PM); attend lectures and/or facilitate writing workshops (Mondays 1-3 PM); hold regularly scheduled weekly office hours for individual consultation with students; evaluate student writing; meet once a week with the instructional team for course planning (time to be arranged); and evaluate and grade student materials. Attend Comparative Literature GSI/Lecturer training scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer I in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester.
Degree requirement: Terminal degree, such as a PhD or MFA, in a humanities department, including Performance Studies, Music, Theater, and Dance. The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meets the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.
Applicants should also demonstrate previous experience in teaching writing (for LSA FYWR or other writing-intensive courses).
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
