The Electronic Media and Film Department (EMF) at Towson University, the largest media department in Maryland, is seeking an Academic Advising Coordinator to coordinate academic advising, recruitment and retention, public events, and social media/marketing. The Academic Advising Coordinator will join EMF’s faculty/adjunct faculty and staff to support our 400 undergraduate students.

Description
Academic Advising:
Coordinate academic advising in the department.
Serve as an academic advisor to early-career EMF majors, approximately 200 of our 400 undergraduate majors (specifically First-Year-Experience students, sophomores, and new transfer students).
Provide training and assistance to faculty advisors.
Assign students to faculty advisors in cooperation with the Administrative Assistant.
Create, distribute, and update all advising information and forms for students and faculty both online and offline.
Maintain up-to-date advising information on the department’s website.
Coordinate and lead transfer advising sessions in summer and winter.
Manage advising record for all students.
Coordinate equivalence evaluations of transfer courses in consultation with the department chair.
Work with the department chair to make appropriate decisions about pre-requisite waivers and over-enrolling courses when necessary.
Assist department chair in resolving special advising cases.

Student Recruitment and Retention:
Coordinate, help lead, and prepare materials for recruitment events such as Major for a Day, Open House, Admitted Student Days, and Department Tours.
Represent the major at any recruitment events, on or off campus.
Develop and attend recruitment-oriented visits with regional high schools and community colleges.
Meet with prospective students and maintain up-to-date program information on the department’s website.
Reach out to continuing students about enrollment and retention when appropriate.
Collaborate with Graduation Office, Registrar’s Office, and department chair for graduation clearance. Work with department chair to consider waivers if appropriate.

Events Coordination:
Coordinate public events like current end-of-semester screenings, as well as future public events. As we enter a new building in coming years, coordinate with faculty to plan gallery exhibition and screening events in the new screen theater and media art gallery facilities. Work with faculty, students, and staff to coordinate the logistics of these events and to publicize them.
Work with the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) facilities, events, and marketing staff to integrate EMF and COFAC events and marketing efforts.
Coordinate events planning, space reservations, and advertising for visiting artists, masterclasses, workshops, networking events, and other departmental events.
Coordinate new faculty orientation process as related to advising, graduation plans, and curricular pathways, for both full-time and adjunct faculty.

Marketing, Promotion, and Social Media:
Create department correspondence and publications in a variety of media for internal and external audiences.
Coordinate with marketing on material and manage aspects of promoting department productions and events that involve online publication and social media.Â

The work hours for this position will include some evenings and Saturdays on an occasional basis.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree.
One year of academic advising experience.Â
Experience with event planning.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and file management in a cloud environment.
Sensitivity to academic needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated strength in project management, time management, organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Knowledgeable in data management and visual presentation of data.
Punctuality and reliability to work independently without close supervision.
Excellent people skills with the ability to work as a team with the department’s leadership.
Familiarity with student resources across campus.
Ability to collaborate with multiple organizational units including academic advising, graduation office, admissions office.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in or knowledge of PeopleSoft, Student Success Collaborate (SCC), SharePoint, OneDrive, 25Live, Courseleaf, Adobe Acrobat, CLSS, or Sales Force.
Experience in website/social media content management.
Experience in basic graphic design.
Academic or professional experience background in electronic media and film or related fields.
Strong public speaking and presentation skills.

Salary & Benefits
Targeted hiring range is $52,000-$55,000 and full university benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
