APAP believes that pay transparency is a critical step toward pay equity and benefits both the job seeker and the employer. For those reasons, we are now requiring that employers include a salary range in all new job postings.
Postings that are backfilled from another association’s career center may not include salary information.

The DC Concert Orchestra Society (DCCOS) seeks an Executive Director for the 26-27 season (starting on or after July 1). Initial position is part-time (25 to 30 hours per week) with potential for progression into a full-time permanent position, based on results and organizational growth. DCCOS is a young, dynamic, thriving community music organization with an active performance schedule presenting both auditioned 80-piece orchestra concerts with quality rivaling the best in the metropolitan area and chamber music concerts. DCCOS also presents multiple Outreach concerts and produces events to create community for non-performing amateur classical musicians. DCCOS prioritizes DEI in all aspects of operations: board, musicians, repertoire and audiences.
The Executive Director oversees all non-artistic aspects of management and operations, with a staff including an operations manager, an assistant director for information systems, and volunteer teams aligned with social media, accounting, and grants. The full job description for the full-time Executive Director is available HERE.
A degree in arts management is desirable, but experience commensurate with the position will be given equal consideration.
While not required, a car is highly recommended.
Weekend work supporting events is part of the gig, but considerable flexibility in work hours beyond that.
Significant telecommuting is an option, but we will have a central office which will need to be accessed/supported regularly.
The DC Concert Orchestra Society is one of metropolitan Washington, DC's premiere community music organizations serving 200+ member musicians, with three program tracks, producing
-- several 80-piece orchestra concerts per year (DC Concert Orchestra -- top-tier quality)
-- five or six chamber music concerts with several additional outreach concerts (DC Chamber Musicians)
-- multiple events in support of non-performance opportunities for chamber musicians (Classical Musicians of Metro DC)
