The Band Director is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum, teaching and supervising children in groups and individually, and helping children grow intellectually, socially, and mentally. The teacher communicates regularly with parents about their child's progress.
Candidates will be responsible for teaching a range of band instruments to students at beginner to proficiency levels in a Kindergarten through Ninth grade independent school environment. The successful candidate should exhibit the following characteristics:
Knowledge of the full range of band instruments
Ability to conduct, rehearse, and support learning from a broad range of students in small groups and in full ensemble
Familiarity with an independent boarding school either as a student or faculty member
Willingness to collaborate across grade levels, divisions, and subject areas
Ability to integrate technology in and meet the needs of a diverse classroom of learners
Eagerness to participate in the full breadth of independent school life, including teaching, coaching, advising, and participating in our boarding community
A sense of humor, positive outlook, and sense of humility
Experience
Prior teaching experience (3-5 years) is preferred, but those early in their teaching career are encouraged to apply.
Education
Minimum B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution.
Desired Qualifications:
Strong content knowledge
Genuine appreciation for and enjoyment of primary and middle school-aged children
Skills & Knowledge:
Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and legal education guidelines.
An understanding of the developmental needs of primary and middle-level students
Proficient at using technology, including the Google Suite of applications. Ability to integrate technology into the students’ learning experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
Must be able to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously and work well under time constraints.
Additional Requirements:
All faculty and staff must occasionally perform different duties during special events.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity and to serving the needs of a diverse and inclusive community with diplomacy and tact.
Positive attitude with a proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
A valid driver’s license.
The Bement School offers a competitive salary, retirement program, and full benefits package. The salary range for this full-time faculty position is $50,000 - $70,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
A bachelor’s degree in music education or another relevant field is required; a master’s degree and at least three years of teaching experience are preferred.
