The Piano Technician is responsible for the tuning, preparation and care of the piano and keyboard inventory which consists of 115 pianos and harpsichords and various other keyboards. Expectations for the maintenance of the keyboard inventory includes, frequent tuning, regulating, voicing and day to day repairs as well as the handling of emergency repairs. Also strategic planning of preventative maintenance such as rebuilding and restoring as time permits. This position is integral in the preparation of concert instruments for performances by faculty, students, ensembles and visiting artists. Other responsibilities include moving pianos as needed, recommending replacements and/or repairs, and maintaining accurate records of all inventory. This position will also serve to provide adequate education and training for usage of the School's piano and keyboard inventory to faculty, staff, students and outside individuals as appropriate and approved by the Director. This position will instruct one course in piano tuning every two years. Supervision responsibility of one graduate student assistant.
