| Oakwood School in Northern Virginia is now accepting applications for a Part-Time Music Teacher with appropriate training to serve Elementary to Middle School students with learning disabilities. A basic understanding of multisensory teaching methods, diverse learning styles, and specific strategies for teaching students with learning needs and dyslexia is required. The Oakwood School Music Teacher instructs students in the fundamental elements of music on an age-appropriate level for grades 1st through 8th. The music teacher provides classroom instruction that allows students to become familiar with all different styles of music from various time periods. This person will be responsible for coordinating a curriculum the supports the development of students’ appreciation and understanding of music. The music teacher should expect to work collaboratively with staff to plan special programs and performances for the Oakwood community. An appropriate candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum for elementary through middle school-aged students with learning disabilities that ties into the overall school curriculum and philosophy, adapt activities and lessons to accommodate the wide range of skill sets and abilities of the students, and provide feedback to classroom teachers about student performance and needs as part of the teaching team. Oakwood School has spent the 2020-2021 school year successfully operating an in-person program. Our facility has had multiple upgrades designed to increase air filtration and circulation, students and faculty wear masks at all times, and practice social distancing. These adaptations, along with a community dedicated to each other’s health and wellness, have allowed us to continue offering in-person instruction. In addition, for 2021-2022, Oakwood School will not offer a hybrid or concurrent learning model. All students and faculty will be on campus. |
