Elementary Jewish Studies Teacher
Rodeph Sholom School
| Rodeph Sholom School (RSS) is an independent Nursery through 8th Grade Jewish Reform day school. RSS has a rigorous independent school curriculum infused with Jewish values. Our graduates are socially responsible individuals who place into upper-level courses and take on a multitude of leadership roles at their ongoing high schools. The Elementary Jewish Studies program at RSS centers on the teaching of Tanakh, holidays, and Tefillot, as well as developing a deep connection to Israel and fostering Jewish identity through ethics and values. We aim to integrate Jewish Studies into the art and music program and we encourage Jewish Studies teachers and General Studies teachers to find commonalities that enhance understandings across disciplines. The Elementary Division of RSS (grades 1-4) is seeking an exceptional candidate to teach Jewish Studies at a Reform Jewish day school starting September 2021. The ideal candidate is an experienced classroom teacher who is able to differentiate instruction while teaching under the philosophy of “informed choice,” a philosophy that emphasizes the development of critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for becoming informed members of the Jewish community. Though the language of instruction is English, candidates must have a background in the Hebrew language. Jewish Studies teachers, in collaboration with our Director of Jewish Life and Learning, also facilitate a number of Jewish informal educational programs at the school including the coordination division-wide holiday celebrations, weekly Kabbalat Shabbat programming, facilitating daily prayer service, and working with students to craft divrei bracha/tefillah/Torah. Please send resumes and inquiries to Keren Schuller, Director of Academics, at kschuller@rssnyc.org.
