POSITION DESCRIPTION:
CFS seeks an engaging, energetic, involved and collaborative music faculty member to serve as choral director. We are looking for someone who has choral conducting experience, demonstrated mastery of piano and possesses a music or music education degree – a master’s degree is preferred. The ability to play the organ for Chapel services is a plus. This part-time position includes building and overseeing the Choir, as well as attending regular school meetings and faculty meetings. While the position currently focuses on choral direction, augmented responsibilities for candidates who can serve other roles such as Organist and theater instructor are possible.
The ideal candidate will join a collaborative Performing Arts department; share the joy of teaching in an all-male, culturally diverse, independent college preparatory boarding and day school; have an understanding and sensitivity to DEI matters; and possess cross-cultural competency skills.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
In our all-boys setting, we seek educators who understand how to channel boys’ energy and individuality into meaningful learning and foster a love of the arts, teachers who can build trusting relationships, create structured yet dynamic learning environments and support boys as they grow into ethical, confident young men.
The successful candidate will have a degree in music or music education, knowledge of and experience with high school choral programs and church choirs. All candidates should be adept in accompanying the Choir on piano. As Church Farm School continues to advance its 21st-century teaching and learning initiatives, the school seeks candidates who will help strengthen the integration of the Performing Arts with the Academic Curriculum and the greater world. Connecting our Choir to surrounding organizations through performances is a goal.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the Academic Faculty, the Choir Director will:
Set the vision for the Choir and cultivate the program.
Teach the Choir class three times a week.
Lead Choir in Wednesday Chapel each week.
Lead Choir and cultivate an advanced a capella
Direct two major performances per year (winter and spring concerts).
Direct smaller performances throughout the year for internal school events.
Coordinate and perform in external school performance opportunities.
Select appropriate and varied repertoire to fit the vocal needs, abilities and interests of our students.
Oversee, organize and maintain uniforms, equipment, music scores and studio spaces.
Structure classes and design learning goals, rubrics and assessments.
Comply with the academic expectations for course planning, grading and comment writing.
Participate in department, regular faculty/staff and grade level meetings, as well as professional development opportunities.
Exhibit enthusiasm and joy while working collaboratively with colleagues and students.
Be prepared to drive or otherwise transport Choir members in school vehicles, including nine-passenger vans.
