The Educational Programming Manager supports the development and delivery of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s (CSO) school-based learning programs, working with staff, musicians, and partners to create meaningful educational opportunities for students through concerts, open rehearsals, school visits, and other listening-based experiences. They manage program operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordination, collaborate across departments to ensure successful implementation of concerts and programs, build relationships with educators and partners in the greater Cincinnati area, contribute to strategic planning, and assesses programs’ impact and reach to advance the organization’s mission.
Responsibilities:
School Programs
The Learning Department's suite of enrichment programming encompasses educational events at Music Hall, local schools and throughout the community, as well as digital resources for educators and learners of all ages. The Educational Programming Manager oversees the planning and implementation of non-instructional educational programs including:
Open Rehearsals
Young People’s Concerts
Musicians in Schools
Education Ensembles
Collaborate with conductors, staff and musicians to design a variety of education concerts and events.
Develop curricular materials related to school programs based on state and federal standards.
Lead internal collaboration in marketing, communication, sales and ticketing for all school programs.
Participate in maintaining professional relationships with regional and local educators, school districts, universities, and other institutions. Be prepared to act as spokesperson for the CSO in school and education matters.
Inform and meet long-term vision and strategy for programs in collaboration with the Director of Learning.
Develop and implement impact measurement tools to evaluate progress on organizational strategic priorities.
Negotiate and administer commission, guest artist, and host contracts.
Hire and supervise independent contractors for graphic design and supplemental material development.
Oversee and direct educational digital media projects
Administrative Duties Include Assisting or taking the Lead to:
Schedule, coordinate, and manage a year-long calendar of education events in coordination with CSO master calendar.
Develop budgets for each program with the Director of Learning; manage and process invoices, payments, and receivables related to school programs.
Cultivate, plan and schedule CSO musicians for events supporting the Learning department.
Collaborate interdepartmentally to implement programs and provide up-to-date information to assist fundraising, marketing, and communications efforts.
Liaise with Musicians in Schools Coordinator to schedule CSO Musicians for events.
Assist Director of Learning with creation and implementation of adult learning offerings.
Record musician attendance and build events in OPAS.
Record audience attendance and build events in Tessitura.
Other
Seek out partnerships and collaborations with other arts organizations, educators, schools, and artists.
Reflect the CSO’s mission, vision, and values in your work as well as supporting a respectful organizational culture.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Reports To: Director of Learning
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in arts management, music education, or related field.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Ability to pass a background check.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
Knowledge of orchestral and chamber music repertoire and performance practices.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, faculty, and external partners.
Ability to lift and move musical equipment and instruments as necessary.
Ability to travel locally for events.
Knowledge of federal and state music and non-music standards. Ability to create cross-curricular educational programs and activities.
