FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Film and Media Studies at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a Doctoral Lecturer and Director of the Arts Management Certificate Program; position is expected to start in Spring 2026. The Arts Management Certificate Program is an interdisciplinary program serving students interested in careers in both the visual and performing arts, and focuses on entrepreneurial, for-profit and non-profit arts organizations as well as on established cultural institutions. This certificate program is designed to make undergraduate students at Hunter aware of employment opportunities offered by the arts organizations of New York and to help them prepare for both entry-level jobs and satisfying long-term careers in arts management.
In addition to teaching in the program, the Director will have the following responsibilities:
Program Management
Maintain relationships with all Hunter arts department chairs & advisors and NYC arts institutions.
Coordinate outings to museums, and theater, dance, and music performances.
Maintain relationships with NYC arts institutions for internship opportunities.
Oversee all student internship searches, provide internship placement when necessary.
Communicate with all organizations hosting program interns regarding all internship evaluations, communications, and issues.
Collaborate with Hunter College Career Services on career fairs, helping to bring arts organizations to campus.
Collaborate with Hunter Works to navigate the career landscape for students, specifically supporting through a lens of multi-disciplinary arts careers and opportunities.
Alumni Relations
Conduct one-on-one career advisement with program alumni.
Write recommendations for student graduate school applications and be a reference for jobs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Ph.D. or other relevant advanced degree (e.g., M.F.A.) with significant related professional experience in arts management.
Preferred:
Has a strong network of connections to NYC arts organizations and institutions in theater, film, media, music, visual art, dance, and literary publishing.
Has experience as a founder or director of an arts organization (preferably nonprofit or fiscally sponsored) and has extensive experience managing artistic programming, creating marketing plans, producing events, overseeing and drawing up budgets, and dealing with arts/ entertainment contracts.
Has produced arts events in higher education
COMPENSATION
CUNY offers a competitive compensation and benefits package to its faculty, covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. The salary range for this position is $62,241 - $87,420.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
