The Production Assistant is a vital leader in ensuring the successful execution of all performances and events at the theatre alongside the Technical Director. This role includes serving as the Lighting Director for every production, managing the house video system, and coordinating pre-show production advancements in collaboration with the technical director for visiting artists and companies. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled technician who possesses excellent organizational abilities, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lighting Direction:
Programming GrandMA3 for all shows and events.
Design, operate lighting for shows and events.
Manage lighting inventory, troubleshooting issues, maintain equipment with repairs and upgrades.
Collaborate with the team and guests to address technical requirements.
Video & Projection Oversight
Oversee setup, operation and maintenance of all video systems (Projection, playback, livestream)
Day of show on site lead technician for video integration.
Technical Assistance
Work with the Technical Director to advance performances with Tour Managers.
Lead load ins and loadouts for all events, ensuring adherence to schedules and safety protocols.
Assist with supervising stage crew for events (additional light tech operators, follow spot, Camera Operators)
Participate in production meetings to ensure efficient communication with part-time crew.
Create a safe work environment for all crew and touring personnel.
Support the budgeting and procurement processes for production-related equipment.
Assist in collaborating with outside promoters / renters to create technical experience for their event.
Maintain stock of materials required to present shows (batteries, tape, cables, etc.)
Provide effective working relationships with artists, tour managers, vendors, subcontractors, staff and others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Over 3 years of professional experience in live event or theatrical production, with a focus on lighting and video.
Proficient in using GrandMA consoles, intelligent lighting fixtures, and DMX/Art-Net protocols.
Familiarity with video systems, including projection, switching, and streaming.
Strong understanding of pre-production planning, technical riders, and stage plots.
Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledgeable in QLab, Vectorworks/Lightwright, and basic audio skills.
Experience with touring productions or music events is a plus.
Any other miscellaneous duties that the Executive Director/ Technical Director / Director of Operations reasonably request based on Patchogue Theatres current business needs at that time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to climb stairs. Must be comfortable working at heights of 50 feet. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50lbs.
