| POSITION SUMMARY:
This position develops and manages employer relationships and promotes and supports internships and experiential learning opportunities across campus. Responsible for strategically strengthening existing relationships with employers and developing new relationships to expand the range of employer recruiting activities and opportunities available to students. Coordinates the credit-bearing student internship program including establishing policy and procedures, maintaining records, developing relationships with employers, and monitoring student progress. Promotes the value of experiential learning and develops programs, presentations, and resources to support students in acquiring relevant career experience through experiential learning opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with potential and current employers and oversees the recruiting activities of the department. Develops and implements a strategic employer relations plan that yields maximum opportunities for Duquesne’s students and alumni.
Coordinates the department’s Employer Advisory Board, recruiting membership, setting meeting agendas and leading meetings for purposes of regular feedback on our employer relations activities and solicitation of employer involvement/ partnership in our programs.
Coordinates and develops all employer marketing materials both print and electronic to highlight Duquesne’s unique mission, strong academic programs and student profile.
Represents the department and university in the Pittsburgh professional community through participation in programs and events sponsored by regional professional associations and chambers of commerce
Utilizes the career management system, Handshake, to maintain employer and student activity records, and coordinates communications to employers and students utilizing the handshake system.
Coordinates the for-credit Internship Program for select academic programs and supports the non-credit Experiential Learning Opportunities requirement for the Bridges Core Curriculum; develops policies and procedures, manages learning contracts, maintains records, prepares reports, communicates with faculty and employers, and monitors progress of interns.
Reviews and approves posted internships, fellowships, coops, experiential learning, volunteer opportunities to ensure postings meet departmental requirements; communicates with employer contacts regarding questions related to experiential opportunities.
Promotes the value of experiential learning and develops content, programs, presentations, and resources to support students’ internship readiness and assists students in acquiring relevant career experience. Advises students on career and internship topics.
Oversees the management of recruiting events including career fairs and networking events; Solicits and coordinates employer involvement in departmental and university programs.
Develops and coordinates hiring, orientation, training, scheduling and supervision for the department’s interns. Collaborates with staff to identify projects and assignments for interns. Coordinates with Administrative Assistant regarding overall student employee program and management.
Serves as the chairperson of a Career Development functional area team, leading the coordination of the department’s administrative functions in assigned areas i.e. employer relations, student supervisors, etc.; Serve as a member and support the initiatives of other department teams and committees as assigned.
Serves as a liaison to assigned administrative departments maintaining relationships, communications, providing resources and coordinating relevant career-related programs and activities.
Assists with policy development, interpretation and enforcement for the department.
