The Syracuse University Department of Drama seeks to hire a Professor of Practice to serve as the Director of its Tepper Semester Program in New York City. The Director will be charged with working in close partnership with the Department Chair, the on-campus department faculty, and the Tepper Semester Academic Operations Manager to reimagine and expand upon existing programming in ways that meet the needs of an ever-changing profession and that prepare a diverse array of students to assume leadership roles. The department seeks candidates whose personal and professional experience, teaching, and creative activity contribute to the advancement of equity, aesthetic diversity, and cultural wealth. Further, successful candidates will enhance the Program's capacity both to honor and to cultivate the contributions of those communities that have historically been under-represented or underserved in theater training and/or the theatrical profession. The Tepper Semester is a unique program that offers undergraduate students in advanced levels of acting, directing, musical theater, playwriting, casting, design, and stage management the opportunity to immerse themselves in a rigorous artistic training program in the culturally rich setting of New York City. The program welcomes qualified students from other schools, colleges, and universities in addition to students from Syracuse University. The Director will be responsible for the academic leadership and vision of the Program, including: curriculum development and course scheduling; development and review of academic programs; recruitment of new faculty, staff and students; faculty development and mentoring as well as annual performance reviews of faculty and staff; and effective communication with both internal and external constituencies. The Director will also teach two courses per year as assigned by the Chair, and based upon expertise. The structure of the Program and the seasonal cycle of the Director's workload can accommodate ongoing professional work. Initial appointment is for three years. This is a renewable 9-month non-tenure-track appointment, beginning in August of 2021.
