Human Resource Business Partner, Temporarily Remote
This position is located in Ithaca, New York. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the University’s decision to limit the number of on-campus employees, the successful applicant will be asked to perform this role remotely at a location of their choice in the United States for a limited time, only until the University can permit more employees to work on campus. Once the University permits more employees to work on campus, the successful candidate will be expected to work on the Ithaca campus, although they may be permitted to perform a portion of the work remotely.
What you will do:
As a member of the Facilities and Campus Services (FCS) Human Resources team, you will work in a values-based organization dedicated to the principals of truth, respect, excellence, teamwork, and integrity. The primary responsibility for the HR Business Partner is managing complex employee and labor relations. This includes partnering with various union leaders, managers, staff, FCS leadership, as well as campus partners such as Workforce Policy and Labor Relations (WPLR), Title IX Office, and Counsel’s Office. You will proactively explore, identify, and evaluate complex and sensitive HR issues that require thorough analysis of issues, creative problem solving, and presentation of various approaches for resolution, advocating for best possible approach for all those involved.
In this role you will also provide consultative services that align our HR initiatives and our FCS business needs, which includes supporting and influencing a culture of inclusion and belonging, enhancing staff performance, supporting staff development, talent acquisition and effective outreach efforts that further our diversity priorities. You will provide policy interpretation, advice, and guidance to managers and staff, and as appropriate, you will partner with colleagues in WPLR and/or Counsel’s office in the administration and interpretation of bargaining unit contracts, mediation efforts, and hearing/resolution of grievances on behalf of the University. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and deliver effective training programs to support objectives.

The ideal candidate for this role will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology or a related field and have 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additionally, we seek someone who thrives in a team environment and who has a proven track record for taking initiative to be proactive and handles sensitive matters with tact and discretion while maintaining confidentiality. In order to be successful in this role the candidate must demonstrate excellent judgement in decision making and creative problem-solving and must be an excellent communicator who uses active listen skills. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills and solid experience using standard desktop tools, including word processing programs, database management systems, and spreadsheets (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
