St. Anne’s-Belfield School seeks a part-time strings teacher and upper school orchestra director. As an institution, St. Anne’s-Belfield encourages risk-taking and creativity and integrates empathy, awareness and respect for differences in every classroom and course in explicit ways. A successful teacher in this position has the capacity to foster in students a love for music through exposure to a wide variety of genres as well as intentional development of technical skills. The ideal candidate is comfortable teaching all four string instruments and has experience teaching string ensembles. Experience with high school aged students is preferred. The teacher in this position leads two groups. “Philharmonic strings” serves beginners to intermediates while “Counterpoints” serves more advanced students, and auditions are required. Both groups perform in the School’s chapel services, convocation and commencement, and in collaboration with the school choirs. The teacher in this position prepares students for auditions for district, regional and all-state competitions and will be required to travel with students to the events and attend all meetings as required for student participation. This role relies on someone who embraces lifelong learning and collaborates effectively with the grades 5-8 strings teacher, members of the arts department and the upper school faculty as a whole.
Classroom teaching experience, both online and in person, strong organizational and classroom management skills, and the ability to joyfully teach high school students are required. A masters degree in music education is preferred.
