An Orchestra/Music Instructor at Forsyth Country Day School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students in his or her classroom, utilizing the school’s instructional program. The teacher works to create meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences in order to continue to build strong foundational skills for lifelong learning. Teachers are committed to growth as professionals and individuals, and value and respect every member of the community. Music instructors at FCDS teach choir, band, orchestra, or a combination of all.
Instructs classes in orchestra and assists students in the development of instrumental techniques and music reading.
Employs a variety of teaching methods including individual and small group instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, attitudes, and backgrounds.
Evaluate student achievement and adjust instruction accordingly.
Teach a variety of vastly different skills on different instruments simultaneously.
Create and foster opportunities for students to work in chamber ensembles.
Effectively manage large classes of students.
Organize and maintain a large inventory of equipment and instructional materials and music library.
Plan logistics and transportation for events outside of school per year.
Plan and organize concerts and other public performances
Prepare and produce concert programs
Logistics: arrange venue, transport equipment
Organize and supervise large groups of students
Manage fundraising for the music program.
Provides tutorials as necessary for students in need of extra academic support.
Advises a homeroom section
Communicates regularly with parents of students including conducting conferences.
Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Participates in divisional, team, and all-faculty meetings.
Maintains a positive attitude and conducts oneself professionally with respect to students, faculty, parents, and the community.
Vigorously pursues knowledge of the areas and levels taught.
Ability to lead and conduct both middle and upper school orchestras.
Ability to positively contribute to a team environment and to our school community
