National Cathedral School seeks a full-time choral director and accompanist to support the coordinate 4-12 music program at National Cathedral School and St. Albans School beginning August 2021. Qualified candidates will possess a strong knowledge of choral repertoire, the ability to model healthy vocal technique, comfort with a wide variety of musical styles and traditions, strong keyboard and accompanying skills, and a clear, communicative, and expressive conducting technique/gesture. Candidates should have experience with and a deep appreciation for Lower and Middle School students and music curriculum. Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree (preferably with a focus in music education, conducting, and/or vocal pedagogy) and at least five years of comparable experience. Kodály certification is a significant plus.
 
Responsibilities include running all Middle School choral rehearsals, serving as music director for an annual Middle School musical theater production, playing for weekly chapel services, assisting with the Lower and Upper school music classes and choral ensembles, collaborating with chaplains to plan chapel and Cathedral services, serving as a Middle School advisor, maintaining grades and comments, coordinating publicity and communications, assisting with set-up for rehearsals, planning and chaperoning trips as needed, assisting with organization and maintenance of the choral scores and music libraries, attending faculty meetings and professional days, and working closely with members of the music department to develop curricula and support occasional daytime and evening dress rehearsals, performances, and festivals. 

Although the duties include work with students from both NCS and STA, the position is based at NCS. The employee will be paid and receive standard benefits offered by NCS. Salaries are competitive, based on experience and include a full benefits package, including professional development.
