| Bank Street School for Children seeks a full-time Music Teacher for the 2021-22 school-year. We seek a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative music educator who is committed to the continued development of a cohesive K-8 music program in conjunction with our Lower School and Middle School music teachers. General Requirements: Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in music or related field, and have at least 3-5 years experience teaching music. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of adolescent development, and recognize the joys of working with middle school students. The candidate must be able to play piano and provide vocal direction and instruction. Experience playing and teaching other instruments is desired. Willingness to collaborate with our auxiliary programs to ensure that after school music lessons are aligned with the vision of the music department is encouraged. Job Responsibilities: - The candidate will be responsible for teaching music (history, theory, and performance) to students in grades five through eight.
- Develop creative and engaging lesson plans that allow students to grow their appreciation, skills and understanding, in addition to working collaboratively during the weekly lessons.
- Lead weekly Chorus classes, and prepare students for various musical programs (concerts, arts day).
- Musically direct the 13/14s musical and provide choral direction for the 13/14s graduation ceremony.
- Creatively collaborate with grade level teams to integrate music across the division.
- Communicate with families through two annual report cycles.
- Participate in department, division, supervisory and faculty meetings
- Commit to being a learner and participant in addressing issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in our curriculum and in our community
Additional Opportunities: In collaboration with the music department, there are opportunities to support and develop music ensembles and programs after school or during non academic times. The Upper School music teacher is eligible to apply for stipends to coordinate any of our existing programs (Strings Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Rock Band) or develop additional programming in response to student interest. Teaching Modality The School for Children is currently teaching music class in distance program mode for all students. While we hope we will be teaching in-person in 2021-22, the successful candidate will have the flexibility, creativity, and strategies to teach a music program both online and in-person. Despite the COVID-19 restrictions in vocal and instrumental music, we are still committed to developing and supporting a high-quality music program. SALARY IS COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE |
