Utah Opera seeks a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational and interpersonal skills to manage the Costume Department and oversee all related aspects of costuming and wig & makeup for all productions. Supervisory duties include oversight of a full time staff of 5 and part-time over-hires, working with guest designers, contracted builds and a robust rental department. Candidate should be self-motivated and willing to look for ways to improve and create a team environment. Strong organizational skills are required for budgeting and long term planning. This job requires strong leadership qualities, the ability to work under pressure, with a positive and dedicated problem-solving attitude, while being adaptable to new situations and changing priorities. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Work with Director of Production, Artistic Team and Guest Designers to ensure execution of all productions; support Education Department for costume needs.
Manage day to day operations of shop, including but not limited to hiring, scheduling and supervising staff for costume shop, rental department and wig & makeup designers; manage supplies and organization.
Planning and maintaining budgets; manage payroll; promote and over-see rental contracts and over-sight of execution thereof.
BA (MFA preferred) in Theatre Arts or equivalent professional experience in a theatrical environment.
Working knowledge of the following software programs is required: MS Office products and Excel. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with competitive pay and excellent benefits.
