Merion Mercy Academy, an independent Catholic girls’ school outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks a dynamic and student-centered educator to serve as Dean of Students beginning July 2021.
Reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Academics, the Dean of Students is a highly visible community builder who embraces Mercy values, possesses strong interpersonal skills and espouses a growth mindset. Importantly, the candidate will help sustain a culture of belonging and inclusion by embracing diversity, service learning and supporting a mission-based advisory program. The Dean of Students will develop innovative, girl-centered student programming in leadership development, health and wellness, civic discourse, and media literacy.
The candidate must be a role model for girls with exceptional initiative and judgment. The ideal candidate will embrace a culture of compassion and accountability and will be skilled at articulating community expectations to students, families, faculty, and staff. Most importantly, the candidate must have a genuine appreciation of and respect for teenage girls.
The Dean of Students will
Collaborate with faculty to implement vibrant, inclusive and student-centered co-curricular programming that supports the school’s mission and develops student leadership skills.
Collaborate with the Director of Student Engagement to plan innovative grade-level planning that fosters the school’s mission, promotes a sense of sisterhood, develops student leadership and agency, promotes health and wellness, and fosters cultural competencies.
Plan opening of school orientations, dances, holiday celebrations, school traditions (including graduation), assemblies and community time events.
Implement a student-centered philosophy of discipline that administers discipline in a fair, and respectful manner consistent with the student handbook, and fosters right relationships.
Update, oversee and communicate all emergency procedures (fire drills, lock down, etc.).
Implement and support a mission-based advisory system.
Work with faculty to plan meaningful opportunities for students to engage in service learning.
Manage and Oversee domestic and international travel to insure compliance with appropriate policies, procedures and supervision.
Manage the work of the Director of Student Engagement and Attendance Coordinator.
