Manzanita School, situated in the Santa Monica Mountains, seeks skilled Kindergarten teachers to join us in the 2021/2022 school year. Our program takes place entirely outdoors using the child led, nature based, experiential learning principles of the Forest Kindergarten model. Children climb trees instead of structures, get wet and muddy, learn to become strong and self sufficient, anticipate and plan for eventualities, plant seeds and pull grass, collect flowers, identify trees, animal species, and explore on and off trail through all seasons.
We are seeking like-minded individuals who are up for the hard, yet invigorating work of a forest school teacher. The ideal candidate will have an authentic and infectious love of the natural world combined with early childhood education training and experience. Extensive training will be provided. Candidates must possess the following attributes:
3-5 yearsexperience working with children age 3-6 years singing, storytelling, setting boundaries and leading group facilitation
Dedicated to developmentally appropriate practice and aware of developmental needs of young children
A nurturing, loving, and creative attitude
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Comfortable sitting on the ground and getting dirty
Comfortable handling insects and other small creatures
Interested in further growth in naturalist studies and mentoring
Strongly Favored Training/Knowledge:
Naturalist skills and knowledge
Waldorf Teacher Training
Certified Forest School Teacher
Experience in storytelling
Play a musical instrument and/or sing
Must be available to start July 26, 2021

Manzanita School and Institute, founded in 2013, is an independent, non-profit, co-educational day school, serving students in grades K through 12. We are located on 21 acres in the rugged and bio-diverse Topanga Canyon, northwest of Los Angeles. Currently in our 7th year, with a program emphasizing human ecology and land stewardship, we received accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in 2017.
