Chorus Teacher, Grade 6-9
SUMMIT SCHOOL
Our Upper School is committed to progressive principles of education. Respect for children and confidence in their natural capacity to learn—and to enjoy learning--are key. The program at all grade levels centers on experiential learning within an integrated curriculum. Our approach emphasizes a nurturing environment and challenging curriculum that includes open-ended inquiry and problem solving, collaborative projects, and exposure to a wide range of learning experiences. The teacher role is a fully professional one: in addition to taking full responsibility for students’ learning in core subject areas and their emotional growth, classroom teachers individually and collectively are the creators of the curriculum. The faculty is actively engaged in ongoing professional learning and curriculum development, both as grade level teams and in division-wide initiatives.
This position reports to the Director of Upper school. The position involves responsibility for the core content area of Chorus within an integrated middle grades curriculum, as well as serving as an academic advisor. This progressive chorus program is focused on collaboration, developing confidence, and an appreciation of music while also teaching the fundamentals of music through performance. This position involves active collaboration with other music disciplines as well as the theater department on a collaborative upper school musical. Communication and collaboration with parents is also an important responsibility. All Upper School teachers share in covering routine duties, attending weekly faculty meetings, and engaging in professional learning on a regular basis.
