Garden School is excited to announce the opening of a Visual & Performing Arts teaching position for the fall of 2021. The position is focused in the intermediate and upper divisions. Therefore, experience and expertise working with a range of ages as well as comfort with introductory and advanced topics is desired.
Garden School is an innovative and collaborative environment where teachers have smaller than usual student rosters so they may focus on the needs of bright and sophisticated individuals. Teaching faculty at Garden enjoy a good deal of autonomy in the material they teach in tandem with well developed support structures to employ best practices. Even for a smaller school, every department is supported by a Chair who will provide mentorship, guidance, and training to new staff.
The Arts team consists of three faculty who focus on small group instruction, general music, general art, theater, and drawing and painting. Currently, formal music programs end after 8th grade and formal arts classes end after 10th. However, this position is being created in response to Garden’s recently adopted new strategic plan and our aspirations to expand the Arts department to incorporate more advanced topics in Visual Arts, build upon a long tradition of theater programs, and establish choir, band, and media arts programs. To these ends, Garden seeks to add a staff member to the team and also partner formally with a number of outside organizations.
This is an exciting time to join Garden School to be at the ground level of building new and innovative programs that cross disciplines and challenge the notion of how students engage with learning and the Arts. This is a truly unique opportunity for someone who wants to build new programs, collaborate with colleagues and outside organizations, and work with a supportive team to bring an innovative vision for the future to fruition.
An ideal candidate will have experience teaching Visual and Performing Arts to students who range in age, a passion for the Arts in all its forms, a desire and experience with growing programs, and a commitment for addressing the individual child in their instruction through meaningful and innovative experiences in the classroom, in the studio, or on the stage.
If you enjoy working with an innovative team, employing best-practice in the classroom, helping bright students achieve their potential by pursuing passions and talents, and seeing every child as an individual, then please forward your cover letter and resume to our Director of Finance, Mary Maisano at email@example.com
