Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of University Relations, the Associate Director of Speechwriting and Executive Communication (Associate Director II) researches, writes and edits speeches, presentations and other communications on behalf of the Office of the President and other senior-level administrators. The Associate Director will develop strategy, messaging and presentation recommendations in coordination with the Associate Vice President, Vice President and other leaders across the University. Handling a range of assignments on tight deadlines, the Associate Director will prepare communications in confidence and regularly solicit feedback to refine messaging and approach. As a member of the University Relations senior team, the Associate Director will contribute to regular strategy meetings and also handle other writing and related tasks as required. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional experience in communication, journalism, writing, theatre or a related professional field is required. Master’s degree in Communication, Journalism, English, Theatre or a related discipline and five to seven years of experience is preferred. Experience writing speeches professionally is required. Candidate must have the ability to write and edit in a clear and consistent style that requires minimal editing from others. The ability to engage an audience through effective speechwriting and strong presentations is essential.
