Part-time Lecturer for Undergraduate Course - Music Licensing Lab

NYU Los Angeles is seeking a local, part-time lecturer to teach an undergraduate course, Music Licensing Lab under the sponsorship of the Tisch School of the Arts, Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. The course will take place in the academic center in the Fairfax/La Brea area of Los Angeles. Teaching commences in Fall 2019 (September 3 through December 17). The instructor role includes all preparation, delivery, and grading. Some administrative assistance is available to support the preparation of course materials. Courses are to be intellectually challenging in content and rigorous student assessment is required. Course Description: This class provides a broad overview of the creative and business sides of music supervision and clearance from both sides of the licensing transaction. Focus is geared to students who are interested in promoting and placing their music in TV shows, movies, trailers as well as students who are interested in exploring music supervision/licensing as a career. Through readings, hands-on assignments, class discussions and interactions with special industry guests, students will learn and be exposed to opportunities and strategies for music placements, acquisition and clearance of music rights, creative and business dimensions of a music supervisor's job and key challenges music supervisors face such as time, budget and administrative constraints. Please review a sample syllabus for more details about the course. Expectation of Hours: The class meeting pattern will be discussed with qualified applicants during the interview process. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and marking, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute "office hour" on location, during which time she or he will be available to meet with students. Applicants should have a terminal degree in the relevant field. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching courses on music licensing at the undergraduate level within a degree granting program. Candidates with experience in music licensing, publishing, producing, and composing and strong professional networks in the industry are strongly preferred.
