Elon University’s Department of Performing Arts invites applications for a Musical Director/Conductor in Music Theatre full-time lecturer or tenure-track position depending on professional experiences and educational qualifications beginning mid-August 2021.
Graduate degree, in music, theatre, or music theatre, is required; we welcome applications from candidates who bring a broadly integrated and interdisciplinary perspectives. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate significant contributions in teaching and musical direction/conducting for music theatre at the University and/or professional level. Preference will be given to candidates who provide evidence of knowledge of the canon of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, and/or multicultural works in the genre.
Primary responsibilities include musical directing and conducting mainstage productions and teaching Music Theatre History, Music Theatre Literature, and Music Theory/Sight-Singing all from a global perspective. Strong keyboard, programming, and sound design experience as well as secondary area in vocal coaching and writing for music theatre is desired. Other courses relating to the candidate’s areas of expertise in music theatre and the Elon Core Curriculum will also be offered Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.
