The Opportunity Webb School of Knoxville seeks a Lower School Music Teacher who views music not simply as performance or enrichment, but as a vital part of how children develop creativity, confidence, and depth of learning. This role is ideal for an educator who understands the developmental needs of young learners and delights in helping students experience music as both joyful expression and thoughtful practice.
At Webb, Lower School music classrooms are places where students explore rhythm, melody, movement, and listening in ways that build curiosity, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
What You Will Do As a member of the Lower School faculty, you will:
Design and teach engaging, developmentally appropriate music lessons for Lower School students
Foster an inclusive classroom environment where exploration, creativity, and active participation are encouraged
Help students develop foundational skills in rhythm, pitch, singing, movement, and musical literacy
Integrate listening, movement, and performance to support depth of learning and student engagement
Lead and coordinate grade-level musicals, concerts, and student performances
Prepare students for seasonal programs, assemblies, and special events
Collaborate to align music instruction with broader Lower School goals
Build strong relationships with students and families through clear communication and encouragement
Contribute to the life of the school as a colleague, community member, and participant in school events
Model Webb’s core values of academic excellence, integrity, curiosity, and care for others
Who You Are You likely have:
A bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred)
Three or more years of experience teaching music to elementary-aged students
Strong musicianship and a joyful, student-centered teaching approach
An understanding of child development and how young learners engage with music
A commitment to collaboration, reflection, and ongoing professional growth
A genuine alignment with Webb School of Knoxville’s mission and values
