BASIC FUNCTION: The North Iowa Area Community College seeks an experienced strategic leader to serve as Director of the Performing Arts & Leadership Series (PALS). The Director will engage the auditorium performance space through the presentation of performances and events that enhance the NIACC Mission: To enrich lives through comprehensive educational opportunities, a commitment to learner success, community engagement, and leadership.
The Performing Arts & Leadership Series offers a variety of performances that include: Broadway, concerts, speakers, comedy, educational and family events. In addition, the auditorium hosts recruiting and student/faculty productions/events, as well as area cultural and community organization productions. The Director will be responsible for the overall management, programming, and promotion of PALS and the auditorium, ensuring it serves as a cultural cornerstone for the community and the North Central Iowa region.
In order to expand the PALS impact, the Director will build interest and support for the organization. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, and working closely with the PALS Advisory Board, full-time staff and necessary faculty, the selected candidate will oversee and implement comprehensive program recommendations. Â
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Plan, secure and implement a comprehensive and quality programming schedule that includes a variety of performances, events, and community outreach initiatives.
Cultivate relationships with artists, performers, and community organizations to enhance programming and collaboration.
Negotiate artists’ fees and production costs.
Model fiscal and organizational outcomes to refine budgeting and improve strategies for successful productions, events and projects relating to PALS.
Lead quarterly PALS Advisory Board meetings to include reporting and providing information to the PALS Advisory Board.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the auditorium, including staff management, marketing, budgeting, and communication of maintenance requests to the Facilities Department.
Supervise and evaluate the auditorium full-time staff according to College policies. Make recommendations for restructuring of current staff titles/responsibilities, as well as additional staffing needs to ensure seamless transitions when necessary.
Identify and provide opportunities for in-service training needs and professional development opportunities for full and part-time staff as well as volunteers.
Supervise the creation and implementation of comprehensive organizational strategy for the historical and future documentation of all events including production requirements, box office, marketing and settlements.
Advance the PALS vision and goals by building engagement among the College’s stakeholders and creative community including students, administration, faculty, staff, artists, performers, local organizations and others.
Fundraise by cultivating new donors, engaging with existing donors, developing and maintaining annual appeals opportunities, and grant writing.
Direct box office operations, ticketing systems, concessions and patron services to ensure a positive audience experience.
Work closely with staff and vendors to ensure fulfillment of contract production requirements.
With NIACC Facilities and administration, co-manage facilities-based projects related to the auditorium including bidding processes, the hiring of contractors, development of scope of work, project oversight, etc.
Work collaboratively with external promoters/agencies, clients, and tours; regional and local tenant arts organizations; third-party service providers; government agencies and law enforcement and with industry colleagues and professionals.
Develop and maintain a strong connection to the local and regional arts communities.
Build and maintain relationships with local nonprofits, schools, and businesses to encourage event space utilization.
Maintain strong organizational skills, demonstrate reliability, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Fulfill other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Perform in a manner that strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Event Planning or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Highly organized with independent critical thinking skills and ability to work under pressure. Excellent conceptual planning skills. Ability to relate well with other professionals within the College and at other organizations. Knowledge of and ability to work within continuous process improvement systems. Demonstrated commitment to shared governance, consensus building, and team approach to management. Strong human relations and interpersonal communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations. Demonstrated experience in fundraising.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Ability and mobility to travel throughout the College’s district as well as limited state and national travel. Availability to work on a basis of as work demands, rather than a fixed schedule.
