The Cincinnati Community Orchestra is seeking a dynamic Music Director to help shape and guide the ensemble’s continued artistic growth while deepening its connection to the community. Now completing its 72nd season, CCO brings together 90+ dedicated and accomplished volunteer musicians. We are looking for a leader with strong musicianship, excellent communication skills, and a passion for inspiring community-based music-making. The orchestra is known for its ambitious repertoire and creative programming, and continues to build on its tradition of musical excellence.
Salary is set by the Board of Directors and will be commensurate with experience and training. A detailed job description is below, and further information about the orchestra may be found on the orchestra’s website, cincinnaticommunityorchestra.org.

Job Description:
The Music Director will inspire and motivate musicians to achieve their highest artistic potential while fostering an inclusive, engaging, and positive musical environment. A successful candidate will have formal training or commensurate experience in orchestral conducting. An understanding of the dynamics of working with a volunteer organization is a plus. This individual will champion diverse repertoire and enriching music-making experiences, develop creative and meaningful concert programs, and play a key role in strengthening the orchestra’s visibility and connection within the community. The Music Director will also build partnerships and collaborate with local organizations to expand the orchestra’s reach and impact.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program season repertoire (four concerts) in consultation with the Board of Directors.
Engage soloists as needed.
Lead all rehearsals and performances with strong musical preparation and clear direction.
Plan a schedule of weekly rehearsals, two hours minimum, in preparation for the concert schedule. The orchestra rehearses on Monday nights, with an additional Thursday night dress the week of the concert.
Assist with musician recruitment, auditions, and overall ensemble development. Develop a seating plan that meets the musical needs of the orchestra and players.
Assist the board with preparation of materials for concerts, including program design and promotion.
Participate as an Ex Officio member of the board, presenting periodic reports, budget planning, long-range and seasonal plans.
Assist in general promotion of the orchestra through print and electronic media.
