Position Summary

The Lower School Strings Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and age appropriate instruction in beginning and leveled string classes to students in Kindergarten through Grade 3.  The Strings Teacher will foster a positive, supportive learning environment that cultivates foundational music skills, encourages creativity, and nurtures a love of string instruments. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong musicianship, a passion for early childhood music education, and experience teaching young learners in a classroom or small ensemble setting. This is a part-time position working 4 to 5 afternoons per week during the school year.

Essential Responsibilities

• Teach beginning and leveled strings classes after school for K - 3rd Grade students
• Plan age appropriate lessons that emphasize technical development, musical skill development, and performance skills
• Utilize responsive classroom expectations and positive discipline techniques
• Present the following performances per year: Fall Violin performance, Celebrate the Arts, and Spring Concert
• Present one Winter informance during the school day & one school assembly
• Provide parent education in the form of electronic and print resources
• Communicate regularly to parents and faculty
• Collaborate with colleagues and administration
• Perform other related duties as assigned

The Upper School (9-12) and Middle School (4-8) share adjoining campuses in Beverly Hills, where the administrative offices, facility services, safety and security services, and the main arts and athletics facilities are located. The Lower School (PreK-3) is located nearby in neighboring Bloomfield Hills. Both Beverly Hills and Bloomfield Hills are in Oakland County, which has the highest per capita income of any county in the state of Michigan and is one of the most affluent counties in the United States. The Detroit Country Day Upper School offers a strong and varied program that provides numerous opportunities for students to demonstrate their individual strengths and develop their potential. The rigorous college-preparatory program, which includes Honors and Advanced Placement courses in each discipline in addition to a diverse selection of electives, prepares students for college and beyond. In addition to a series of honors and Advanced Placement courses, students at Detroit Country Day Upper School may pursue an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
