The University Library seeks a motivated, collaborative, and service-oriented Digital Preservation Archivist (open rank, non-tenure track faculty: options are: Librarian Instructor, Librarian Assistant Professor, Librarian Associate Professor) to provide leadership and expertise in digital preservation. This position is also responsible for management of the Atlanta Civic & Neighborhood collecting area.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Establishes and refines policies, procedures, and best practices for the acquisition, long-term preservation and access to permanent digital materials.
Manages and maintains the digital preservation system and Archive It web archiving account.
Collaborates with archivists to identify, capture, and revise web and social media content in accordance with the collection development policy.
Works with the University and University Archivist to implement an enterprise-wide system to capture permanent born digital archival content across the University as per the University System of Georgia’s records retention schedule.
Advises faculty archivists, librarians, and content creators on digital content lifecycle issues, strategies for digital content preservation, the use of innovative tools and processes for experimentation and development, and other initiatives related to collections and data.
Strategically solicits, acquires, and appraises materials for the Atlanta Civic & Neighborhood History collecting area including working with donors, building community partnerships, and providing access to materials acquired for the collection.
Promotes the Atlanta Civic & Neighborhood History collections.
Works with other faculty in the Special Collections & Archives department to research, develop, and design exhibits and instruction sessions.
The position serves as a member of the library faculty (12-month, non-tenure track), holds faculty rank; and is expected to participate in professional development and service activities as outlined in the University Library’s faculty guidelines. Required Experience
Minimum of two years’ experience working in archives and special collections in the specialty of digital preservation.
Required Education
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program or an accredited graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. History, Information Management).
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
MLIS or MIM with a concentration in archives administration/management or graduate degree with a concentration in information management or systems.
Experience working with archival collections, instruction, and outreach.
Experience working in an academic research library related to digital preservation, digital libraries, or digital repositories.
Experience with digital preservation tools and systems, particularly in an enterprise-wide environment.
Familiarity with web archiving tools such as Archive It.
Experience writing grants and completing grant funded projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of digital preservation issues, strategies, and standards.
Good organizational skills and an aptitude for analytical and detailed work.
Ability to work independently as well as collegially in a complex, rapidly changing and professionally diverse environment.

The Georgia State University Library welcomes to our Atlanta campus team an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented Archivist for the Southern Labor Archives. Reporting to the Head of Special Collections and Archives, the Archivist for the Southern Labor Archives is responsible for donor relations, selecting and acquiring collections, managing oral history projects, and securing external funding. The Archivist also manages the use of several foundation accounts, including two funds that require administration of a scholarship and a research award.
We welcome a highly-engaged archivist who collaborates with colleagues across the library in outreach and education activities including the creation of exhibits (physical and digital), workshops, and instruction. The Archivist works with students, faculty, and researchers to provide advanced reference services and supervise graduate students or temporary staff... as needed. Additionally, this individual will be asked to represent the University Library by participating in professional activities concerning archival practices and labor at the local, state, and national level.
