| 65% - Curation & Programming Lecture, Film & Special Event Curation and Programming: Serves as the top curator/programmer for the Lecture series, Film series, and Special Events, including developing concepts and themes. Researches, selects and implements all public lecture and film presentations within a complex and competitive local arts and ideas environment. Takes full managerial responsibility for A&L's Lecture and Film series, including a significant number of prominent, large-scale, high-profile events in the community, many with extensive additional residency activities both on and off campus. Creates and manages Lecture, Film, and Special Event budgets, establishes revenue goals, and advises on marketing and fundraising strategies to achieve both revenue generation and cost-effective usage of funds. Responsible for a revenue goal in excess of $1,500,000 annually, including Lecture, Film, and Special Event ticket sales, event/series sponsorships, and co-presenter sponsorships. Negotiates fees and complex contractual terms with speakers, agents, and film distributors. Negotiates with major publishing houses for authors to visit UCSB as part of publisher-sponsored book tours. Negotiates special funding arrangements with departments and community co-presenters for special events including an expanded slate of offerings at off-site locations. Approves event budgets, manages, approves and tracks event expenses including complex venue/talent agreements and settlements, event security, equipment, technical and staffing needs. Provides quarterly and annual reports and projections for all Lecture, Film, and Special Events revenue and expenses. Tracks and analyzes event and attendance data for cumulative annual and grant reporting, and makes recommendations to support organizational goals and objectives. Establishes ticket income goals and individual ticket prices. Reports attendance and income figures to film distributors following screenings .Oversees the maintenance and archiving of event histories Films and Lectures. Assists in the research, identification, development and writing of grant proposals and other financial sponsorships. Maintains partnership with Summer Sessions for funding of summer programs. Determines use of funds for foundation and endowment-supported public lectures series and prepares required reports. Represents Arts & Lectures as the point person with off-campus venue management and high-profile speakers and agents. Delivers on-stage announcements, and leads engaging, informed conversations/Q&As on stage for live audiences of up to 2,000.Manages relationships with major venue management (Arlington & Granada Theatres, Campbell Hall, UCSB Events Center) to oversee all aspects of a successful event, including: audience management, safety and security, technical and stage logistics, schedules, and budgets. Develops and implements new and complex partnerships, collaborations, and community and campus-based initiatives such as Creating Hope, Race to Justice, Forces of Nature, UCSB Reads and Santa Barbara Reads involving multiple campus divisions and leaders, as well as community agencies. Manages all logistics to support these complex initiatives and events. Responsible for conceptualizing, programming, directing and managing the Thematic Learning Initiative (TLI), a multi-million-dollar donor-supported multi-year project. Directs staff and consultants, and integrates TLI themes with main-stage A&L programming. Responsible for event management and hosting speakers/guests for honor for all TLI public and private events 20% - Fundraising Directs the Arts & Lectures management team in the area of strategic planning and implementation of a major development program. Works closely with the Executive Director and Senior Director of Development & Special Initiatives to address all aspects of the fundraising enterprise for each season's offerings. Fulfills a leadership role in all A&L fundraising efforts including donor identification and cultivation and development of project proposals for funding by private foundations and individual philanthropists. Fundraises with the Executive Director and Development team. Identifies, cultivates, and stewards individuals, foundations, agencies, businesses and corporations with interest in programming sponsorships, organizational support and endowments. Identifies fundraising opportunities and builds them into the schedules of visiting speakers, attends donor/artist receptions and benefit events as an A&L's senior representatives. Collaborates with the Executive Director and Senior Director of Development to meet fundraising targets. Has leadership in special projects such as the undergraduate and graduate student activities mandatory fee campaigns, and other strategic and collaborative initiatives. 15% - Leadership & Supervision The Director of Public Lectures and Special Initiatives is a key member of the UCSB Arts &Lectures senior leadership team, and the primary thought partner with the Executive Director in curating, programming and strategic visioning and leadership. Leads short and long-range strategic planning sessions with senior directors, and provides leadership and emergency response and directives in the absence of the Executive Director. Participates in quarterly A&L Council meetings. Prepares and presents to executive leadership donors and councilmembers and other constituents. Represents Arts &Lectures at large-scale public events. Supervises and mentors a top-level management team including the Production Manager and Production Coordinator. Serves as the primary contact with other campus and community offices. Has authority to represent Arts & Lectures at campus, community, and development activities and events. Directs, through subordinate managers, the vision, strategies, goals and objectives for three key functional departments for Arts & Lectures: Education & Outreach Engagement, Programming, and Event Management. In the absence of a subordinate manager, the Director of Public Lectures and Special Initiatives is responsible for direct supervision of subordinate staff, including student staff. Assesses distribution of workload and establishes priorities, policies and procedures. Manages employee performance, including on-boarding, mentorship and professional development, annual performance evaluations, and recommends reclassifications, equity reviews, and merit increases for staff.
