The University of Oklahoma Health Campus (OUHC) and the NCI-Designated Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC) are seeking applications for one postdoctoral research fellowship (2-3 year appointment, subject to availability of funds and satisfactory work performance) to work under the joint mentorship of Dr. Jordan Neil and Dr. Mark Doescher. We are recruiting a highly motivated scholar committed to building an independent research career in cancer prevention, community-engaged research, digital health, and/or cancer screening to improve health outcomes across diverse communities in Oklahoma.
Starting salary is $67,000 per year plus a $5,000 annual travel/training fund.
Primary Focus Areas
Statewide Cancer Screening Evaluation (50% – Dr. Doescher)
Track and analyze statewide screening outcomes, including activity of the TSET mobile lung screening van.
Support monitoring, reporting, and quality improvement across lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate screening programs.
Generate data to inform program decision-making, evaluation, and create technical reports for progress of SCC outreach activities to TSET.
Cancer Screening & Digital Health Research (50% – Dr. Neil)
Lead and contribute to digital-health and at-home screening studies.
Engage Tribal, rural, and community partners to reduce screening disparities.
Support statewide awareness campaigns to improve screening motivation and readiness.
Training and Development
Lead and contribute to manuscripts from multiple ongoing cancer screening projects.
Write pilot and career development grants (K-level, R-level).
Gain hands-on experience managing all phases of community-engaged cancer prevention and screening studies, including IRB submissions, protocol implementation, outreach coordination, participant tracking, and partnership communication.
Training in community-engaged approaches, health disparities research, digital health, adaptive trial design, and implementation science. Specifics on mobile health research methods can be found here: https://healthpromotionresearch.org/Training).
Instruction in advanced quantitative and mixed methods.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in public health, social or behavioral science, psychology, health communication, community health, or a related field. Fellow duties are highly focused on writing (e.g., papers, grant applications) and tracking and monitoring screening outcomes, thus excellent writing and proficient quantitative skills are required.
Preferred qualifications include:
Background or strong interest in cancer prevention, screening, or community-based research.
Interest in mobile health, digital outreach, or implementation science.
