The Browning School is a K-12 boys school located on 62nd Street in midtown Manhattan, New York. Founded by scholar and teacher John A. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Browning School seeks an experienced music educator for a leave replacement position from January 5, 2026 to June 12, 2026. The expected salary range for this position is $40,000 - $46,000, commensurate with experience. A bachelor’s degree or considerable experience in the role is required. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

Key Responsibilities
Â
Teach music classes to students in Grades 3-8Â
The ideal candidate will have teaching experience with the age group and a love for working with boys.Â
Experience teaching ukulele, drums, choral singing, and digital music production would be beneficial.Â
Lead the Lower School and Middle School chorus programs
Support Middle School ensemble programs including Rock Band and Ovation Ensemble in collaboration with ensemble directorsÂ
Organize performance opportunities for choruses and ensembles such as coffeehouses, music assemblies, and concerts in collaboration with the Upper School music teacher
Advise a group of Grade 6 students, serving as their primary point of contact for student support and family communication
Create strong relationships with students built on Browning’s core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose
Collaborate as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the Middle School faculty and the Performing and Fine Arts Department; participate in divisional, grade level, and department meetings
Perform club, lunch, phone and other student supervision duties as assigned
Communicating with families about curricular and student matters
Heartily contributing to the school community by modeling and upholding The Browning School’s mission and values
