Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic and creative individual to direct the development and implementation of the NMH theater program and its curriculum. The Director provides instruction in playwriting, acting, and directing, as well as the Performing Arts Foundation required course for ninth graders. The position works collaboratively on productions with the program’s Technical Director and Designer, Costume Designer, and for the annual musical, with faculty members of the Dance and Music Programs, to ensure a program that supports student learning and meets contemporary theatrical standards. This position begins with the fall semester of the 2025-2026 academic year.
Responsibilities of the position include classroom teaching, student advising, and supporting the residential program. This position will direct and produce all mainstage plays and musicals and act as producer/advisor for all student-initiated productions.
The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in theater, theater education, or a related discipline, with a background sufficient to teach all aspects of theater. The successful candidate will have three to five years of teaching in the arts; prior interdisciplinary teaching is preferred. Administrative experience, with an emphasis on budgeting, performance contracts, licensing, and publicity design, is essential. Additional qualifications include strong listening skills, highly developed interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
Candidates must be familiar with boarding school life, demonstrate experience in equity and inclusion work that promotes a diverse community environment, and have a clear understanding of anti-bias education.
