1. Direct and manage production systems and activity * Supervise all production activity at YSC, including artistic programming, student events, and university activity ranging from reunions to admissions and development events. * With support from the production team, develop and implement production policies that ensure safe working conditions and high organizational and artistic standards for YSC arts productions. * Assume primary responsibility for all aspects of production oversight for professional touring and co-produced productions in a range of multi-purpose venues. o Assist Associate Production Managers in advancing all touring and co-produced productions coming to the center, working with each production's technical manager to ensure that load-ins, residencies, and load-outs are completed in a safe, timely, and cost-efficient manner. * Manage production team staff, who provide production and technical support to student- and faculty-led- events and assist with professional touring events. * Oversee the hiring of vendors (equipment, backline rentals, etc.) and local production staff for touring and co-produced productions. For a wide range of performance events, advise guest artists and technicians, faculty, and staff throughout the production process in areas including, but not limited to, safety, production planning, budgeting, technical design, and design. * Manage YSC production relationships to internal and external partners including: o Major arts institutions, domestic and international o Yale Hospitality o Woolsey Hall o Yale College Undergraduate Production o Yale Fire Code Compliance, New Haven Fire Dept o Yale Environmental Health and Safety, Risk Management o Faculty in Yale departments, programs, and schools 2. Oversee facilities, equipment purchases, schedules, with support from production team members * Manage production budgets for YSC. * Oversee all YSC production venues and directly manage designated venues. Ensure safety of production facilities at all times. Lead and oversee the planning of upgrades to venues and equipment. * Manage production calendar for all performance events at YSC. * Oversee maintenance and improvements to equipment and facilities in production venues 3. Other duties as assigned.
Required Skill/ability 1: Knowledge of standard practices and equipment in the areas of theatrical lighting, rigging, sound, and projection.
Required Skill/ability 2: Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and concerns and ability to identify and correct potential hazards.
Required Skill/ability 3: Strong demonstrated ability to manage a team while collaborating effectively and flexibly with a large number of faculty, staff, students, interns, community members, guest artists, and other professionals representing a wide diversity of personalities and cultures.
Required Skill/ability 4: Strongly proven ability to manage and prioritize complex workload and staff in a calm and professional manner.
Required Skill/ability 5: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Education: Experience in a start-up environment; MFA degree in theater production.
