Position Summary
Reporting to the Production Manager ??? Lighting and Theatrical Systems, the incumbent supports production planning, installation, and live theatrical events at the Lenfest Center for the Arts, a multi-venue building that incubates, produces, and presents educational and professional exhibitions, events, performances, screenings, and artistic projects developed by the School of the Arts, the Wallach Art Gallery, and collaborating partners. This role supports the Production Manager with the planning, installation, operation, and upkeep of the theatrical lighting system primarily in support of student productions, and assists in the oversight of Lenfest venues as an on-site building representative. This position requires frequent evening and weekend hours and performs related duties as assigned.
This is a temporary full-time position through June 15, 2024.
Responsibilities
Supports Production Manager-Lighting and Theatrical Systems with the planning and execution of lighting elements for MFA student theatrical productions at Lenfest, overseeing installations as needed
Supervises stage and technical crew; participates as needed in deliveries, load-in, setup and breakdown of events; leads electrical calls, installs, and load-outs for theatrical productions
Supports the upkeep of lighting and theatrical equipment
Assists Production Manager with drafting, paperwork, and related administrative duties as assigned
Adheres to technical calendar, deadlines, and established production goals
Assists Production Manager in supervision of student and freelance personnel and technical production oversight
Maintains high quality customer service for the Center???s diverse audiences, performers, students, faculty, and staff; fosters a collegial, educational, and inviting environment that enables everyone to do their best work
Shares responsibility for production staff coverage at rehearsals and events, with frequent evening and weekend hours
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Center emergency procedures and safety guidelines
Oversees venue lock-up and security procedures
As a member of the building???s operations team, ensures that the appearance and general condition of the lobby, restrooms, venues, and other building spaces are appropriate
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s degree or its equivalent required. One to two years??? related professional experience is required, as is demonstrated skill in programming ETC consoles. ]
Demonstrated ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair lighting equipment is required.
Must be able to read and understand theatrical drawings and paperwork.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are required.
Must be able to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively while maintaining a calm demeanor.
Must be highly organized, flexible, and able to balance multiple competing demands.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Must be able to frequently move lighting equipment up to 25 pounds across the theater space. Must be able to comfortably ascend/descend a ladder and position self at height in a vertical lift to frequently service the theatrical lights. Must be able to remain in a stationary position and move about in the theater space/backstage area/storage room. Must be able to operate theatrical lighting equipment and tools, such as a lighting console, a vertical lift, a wrench, etc. The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) is required.
Ability to work nights and weekends is a must.
Preferred Qualifications
Competence with Vectorworks and LightWright 6 and experience with creating and editing theatrical drafting files is preferred, as is basic knowledge of best practices for rigging, carpentry, audio, and video.
