The Department of Dance, within the College of Arts & Sciences, is seeking a polyvalent accompanist with drumming skills (djembe, Sabar, Dundun, Congas, drum set, etc.), piano and/or other modern music instruments to set up equipment and provide musical accompaniment for Contemporary, African, and Ballet classes in the dance department. The final candidate's schedule must be flexible to meet the needs of the instructor in class, and respond to movement by discerning meter, as well as accent, articulation, and nuance.
This is an hourly-paid position working a maximum of 10 hours per week.
Required Education & Experience: High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience, a strong sense of rhythm, and expertise in a wide range of appropriate musical literature for dance classes.
Desired Qualification: Fluency and extensive experience in African traditional rhythms (Guinea, Mali, Senegal, etc.)
