Career Center

The Design & Production program at Galloway is an essential aspect of our vibrant Fine Arts program. In collaboration with the Theatre program, the Design & Production curriculum centers around technical theatre skills, designing for the stage, and the process of theatre production.

In the absence of the regular teacher, the long term substitute teacher is responsible for teaching a full load of Upper Learning Technical Theatre classes, which include the following courses, and units.

• Stagecraft (2 sections)
  • Basic Broadway flat construction (frame construction, covering, sizing)
  • Scenic Painting (cartooning, color mixing, scumbling, and other techniques)
• Makeup Design
  • Design and application of period makeup (1920-1965)
  • Design and application of fantasy or science-fiction makeup
• Light & Sound
  • Creating and recording foley sound effects to replace the audio track from a movie clip
  • Programming those effects into timed cues in Qlab to match up with the clip

Upper Learning faculty are also expected to fulfill all level-specific responsibilities, including attending all UL level faculty meetings, professional development days, and Arts Faculty department meetings.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities include and are not limited to:

• Teach four sections of Technical Theatre courses in Upper Learning.
• Deliver curriculum, assign related coursework and track student performance.
• Evaluate student progress (academic updates, progress reports).
• Embody and advocate for the mission and vision of the school.
• Collaborate closely with Fine Arts faculty, the Director of Fine Arts, and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement
• Participate constructively and collaboratively in professional development, grade level, and department meetings.
• Maintain safe shop – both in student shop etiquette and safety procedures; and in proper care of equipment.
• Maintain a safe, comfortable, inclusive and engaging classroom environment with positive ensemble culture.
• Communicate with parents in an appropriate and timely manner.
• Serve as an advisor to an assigned group of students.
• Familiarize oneself with school procedures and regulations.
• Perform other related duties as directed by principal or assistant principal.
• Other duties as assigned.
  
  

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Scene Shop Maintenance
  • Maintaining and organizing scene shop equipment on Northside Campus
  • Maintaining and enforcing safety procedures
  • Keeping equipment organized and making sure everything is in working condition
