APAP believes that pay transparency is a critical step toward pay equity and benefits both the job seeker and the employer. For those reasons, we are now requiring that employers include a salary range in all new job postings.
Postings that are backfilled from another association’s career center may not include salary information.

Open Rank Professor of Education (Muscle Physiology)
Department of Kinesiology
Â
Posting Details:
The University of Virginia Department of Kinesiology seeks a scholar with expertise in Muscle Physiology for an open-rank, tenure eligible position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The Department of Kinesiology is housed in the School of Education and Human Development and has strong connections with many units across the University and UVA Health. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of expertise in applied skeletal muscle physiology including muscle metabolism and neuromuscular function. We are interested in individuals who can translate basic findings into functional outcomes in the context of physical activity, exercise, health, aging and disease. We seek an innovative scholar who will play a key role in contributing to the exciting and collegial research environment within the Department of Kinesiology and across the University. The primary background of the successful candidate will likely be in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will have a clear and compelling research agenda. While complementary expertise in preclinical approaches is welcome, the core of the candidate’s research must be human-based (not animal-model-centered).
Â
Senior candidates seeking appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor should have evidence of sustained extramural research funding, while junior candidates seeking appointment as an Assistant Professor will be expected to seek and obtain such funding. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Kinesiology and contribute to training the next generation of scholars through mentorship of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. They will work collaboratively with colleagues, both within and outside the School of Education & Human Development, to accomplish duties as a faculty member. These include contributing to institutional service activities at the department, school, and/or university level as assigned, to professional service activities, and attendance at department and school faculty meetings. Load is set annually between the department chair and faculty member consistent with the School’s Load Planning policy.
