Peninsula School seeks a dedicated and organized professional to serve as Co-Director of our comprehensive summer program. This is a demanding, high-responsibility position requiring exceptional organizational skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and commitment to providing high-quality educational programming for children and families.
The Summer at Peninsula School program consists of two three-week, non-academic summer sessions for children entering kindergarten through eighth grade. These sessions are attended by both current Peninsula students and children from other schools. Each year, over 200 students are enrolled, and more than 50 teachers and assistants are employed.
Key Responsibilities in Collaboration with the Co-Director
Program Development & Administration
Create annual budget, estimating income and expense projections
Manage online registration system with meticulous attention to detail
Manage marketing efforts including advertising contracts, social media, and promotional materials
Collaborate with prospective teachers to create age-appropriate classes that leverage teachers' unique expertise and passions, and school resources
Design a flexible program that can adapt to enrollment patterns while integrating Peninsula School's progressive education values with broader community appeal
Staff & Family Services
Recruit, interview, and select head teachers and teaching assistants
Manage staff orientation (June)
Manage staff scheduling, payroll coordination, and all employment documentation
Conduct regular check-ins with all teaching staff throughout the summer program
Oversee substitute teacher arrangements and coverage needs
Process and manage all student registrations through online system
Handle all family inquiries via phone, email, and in-person interactions
Coordinate with childcare services for program integration
Manage student placement decisions and schedule adjustments
Oversee emergency procedures and safety protocols
Daily Operations During Summer Session
Track daily attendance and follow up on unexplained absences
Coordinate special events including art shows, picnics, square dances, and performances
Manage facility usage, room assignments, and resource allocation
Handle all administrative tasks including staff timesheets, reimbursements, and reporting
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred, with experience in education, program management, or related field
Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Proficiency with database management systems and online registration platforms
Experience supervising and coordinating staff teams
Ability to work collaboratively in a school environment
Familiarity with independent schools or Peninsula School (preferred)

Pre-program planning: December through May (part-time, flexible schedule)
This position operates within Peninsula School's collaborative educational community using a shared leadership model with a fellow Co-Director. The role combines staff management, office work, outdoor supervision, and extensive community interaction in a high-energy, fast-paced environment during summer sessions. The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to child-centered, progressive education principles, ability to work intensively during summer months (June and July), and enthusiasm for creating positive experiences for children and families.
