APAP believes that pay transparency is a critical step toward pay equity and benefits both the job seeker and the employer. For those reasons, we are now requiring that employers include a salary range in all new job postings.
Postings that are backfilled from another association’s career center may not include salary information.

Part-time Lecturer for Undergraduate Course: Capstone in Episodic TV
New York University
Application
Details
Posted: 23-Oct-25
Location: NYU Los Angeles
Internal Number: 176238
NYU Los Angeles is seeking a local, part-time instructor to teach a writing for television capstone course to undergraduate students this Spring 2026 under the sponsorship of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ Rita & Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing.
The instructor role includes all preparation, delivery, and grading. Some administrative assistance is available to support the preparation of course materials. Courses are to be intellectually challenging in content and rigorous student assessment is required. The instructor can expect to also lead a limited number of sessions for the Dramatic Writing students of NYU Los Angeles's Experiential Learning Seminar - the cornerstone experience of studying away at NYU LA.
The course will take place in the academic center in the Fairfax/La Brea area of Los Angeles. Teaching commences in Spring 2026 (January - May).
Course Description:
In this class, the students will build upon the training they have had in the department thus far. They will outline, write, rewrite, and polish a half-hour or hour pilot. They will also write a series document and pitch their idea to the class and some seasoned television professionals. The students will take what they learn from pitching and do a final polish of their script, rewrite their series document, and reflect on their writing process.
Expectation of Hours:
The class meeting pattern will be discussed with qualified applicants during the interview process. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and marking, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute "office hour" per week on location, during which time she or he will be available to meet with students.
About NYU and NYU's Los Angeles:
Founded in 1831, New York University is the largest private university in the United States. The University has degree-granting campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai and operates 12 global academic centers and research programs in more than 25 countries.
NYU's Los Angeles is a study away opportunity designed for upper-level undergraduate students planning for careers in the entertainment and media industries. The program combines highly focused academic programming, with a substantial professional development component including rigorous industry internships.
Tisch's Rita & Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing offers a highly focused academic and professional writing program for undergraduate and graduate students, committed to the rigorous training of writers for theater, features, and television/episodic series. Our primary goal is to educate and train the writer through an integrated curriculum: a stepped series of core writing courses, a set of challenging theoretical and analytical courses in text analysis, and a group of production and professional training courses. Undergraduate training, in particular, is firmly rooted in a wide-ranging liberal arts curriculum that is designed to illuminate and educate the dramatist.
We are dedicated to educating writers as thinkers and artists who are serious, ethical, and responsible. We believe that it is our responsibility to encourage dramatic writers to find truth and to have the courage to tell that truth in their stories. We encourage the writers in our program to develop their own voices and their own visions.
We are actively seeking applicants that have a commitment to equity-forward teaching practices and who recognize and embrace the values of inclusivity and diversity, both in the classroom and in the field.
The ideal candidate will have substantial professional artistic and/or scholarly work consistent with the Tisch School of the Arts. Candidates must have either university-level teaching experience or can demonstrate that they can translate their professional experience into dynamic teaching of episodic television writing.
Applications must include a cover letter, an updated CV, list of references, and course evaluation summaries (if available). In the cover letter, please highlight any relevant experience you have in teaching and describe your teaching philosophy.
Consideration for applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Applications will be reviewed jointly by senior NYU LA leadership and colleagues in the Tisch Dramatic Writing Program. Terms and conditions will be discussed with the successful applicant.
