Job Summary:
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 940 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse democratic society and global community.”
Primarily, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Piano Accompanist to support our choral music program for grades 6-12. The ideal candidate will have excellent sight-reading skills, advanced piano technique, an ability to play in a variety of styles (classical, pop, theatre, gospel), and improvisation ability to accompany choruses. Additionally, they should be capable of coaching sectionals for students in grades 6-12.
In addition to the role of accompanist, candidates for this position have the opportunity to serve as an in-school private Piano Instructor. Candidates should be well-qualified, experienced, and confident in teaching private students of wide-ranging ages and abilities (typically ages 5-18). The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to select and provide developmentally-appropriate repertoire/materials, communicate effectively with students and parents with regards to scheduling, practicing, instruction, and curriculum goals, and to provide students occasional performance opportunities like recitals.
Close collaboration with department colleagues is necessary in implementing our curricular goals. Flexibility, creativity, and a sense of humor are highly desirable qualities.
Experience playing a variety of genres (e.g.: classical, gospel, pop, broadway theatre)
Compensation:
$78 per hour; this position is not eligible for benefits.
