St. John’s is seeking a Teacher of Grades 5 & 6 Social Studies. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with an August 2025 start date. The position includes teaching Social Studies as well as responsibilities as an advisor. The successful candidate is an energetic, high performer committed to the school’s mission, and who impresses with their drive, joy, and initiative. He or she will have the opportunity to shape the development of a new state-of-the-art facility as the school moves towards completion of a truly transformative master plan centered on an 80,000 square foot campus building. He or She will be expected to successfully meet the following responsibilities:
Teach social studies to Grades 5 & 6 students.
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of middle school pedagogy.
Serve as an active member of the advisory program.
Serve at the Student Council Advisor.
Annually update the Grade 8 Photo Board.
Create and manage Google Classroom for each class.
Integrate appropriate educational technology in a 1:1 iPad classroom.
Lead an extracurricular activity (coaching, clubs, etc.).
Lead the Grade 6 Geography Fair.
Attend school dances, St. Augustine overnight class trip, open houses, conference days, etc.
Bachelor’s degree in history or related field; master’s degree preferred.
Experience in an independent school, middle school level experience preferred.
Genuine affinity for working with children and families in an educational setting.
Ability to make independent decisions along with maintaining the confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
High level of competence using technology.
Teaching experience in a K(4)-8 environment, preferably in independent schools.
