Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Dickinson College is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor in Costume Design and Technology, beginning in July of 2025. We are seeking a thoughtful and considerate collaborator with experience designing for both theatre and dance.
Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in Costume Design, Costume History and Costume Crafts, as well as courses that relate to the applicant's expertise's such as props, puppetry, performance objects and/or Hair and Make Up Design and Application. In addition to their teaching load, they will be responsible for designing one main stage theatrical production and one main stage dance production a semester, as well as mentoring students designing for student choreographed works in the spring. The applicant should be committed to the department's produced shows as an integral part of their workload and will be encouraged to contribute to many areas in the theatre department. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
The Department of Theatre and Dance has a dedicated full-time Costume Studio Manager who manages the daily tasks of the Costume Studio and oversees costume production and student assistants. The Costume studio Manager also teaches the Intro to costume Construction Course
The Department of Theatre and Dance at Dickinson College serves a varied group of students who explore theater and dance making through a variety of major and minor tacks. Many students are engaged with our formal coursework while others seek a broad liberal arts education which integrates live performance and civic engagement, global studies, or sustainability. Dickinson College is a highly selective four-year, independent liberal arts college with 2300 students. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC and Philadelphia.

MFA in Costume Design, or Costume Technology or another related field
Experience designing costumes for both traditional theatre, devised theatre and dance
Proven ability to work in a collaborative environment.

· Demonstrated professional or university experience in Costume Design and Technology
· Prior teaching at the university level is preferred.
· Strong costume and craft technology background.
· Experience with props, or set design or another area of theatrical design
