This can be two separate part time positions or taught as one full-time position.
Part-time Middle & Upper School Choir Director / Vocal Music Instructor
The Donoho School is a private school committed to excellence in academics, the arts, and character development. We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Middle & Upper School Choir Director to lead our vocal music program, including choir instruction, private voice lessons, and musical theater music direction. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and grow a thriving choral and vocal program while inspiring students to develop their talents.
Job Responsibilities:
• Direct and develop middle and upper school choir programs, selecting diverse and engaging repertoire.
• Provide individual and small-group voice lessons to students of varying skill levels.
• Serve as the music director for the school’s musical theater productions, collaborating with drama.
• Plan and lead performances, concerts, and school events, fostering student confidence and stage presence.
• Teach vocal techniques, music theory, sight-reading, and ensemble singing skills.
• Create a supportive and encouraging environment that nurtures musical and personal growth.
• Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods into music instruction.
• Collaborate with faculty and administration to promote interdisciplinary learning and school-wide artistic initiatives.
• Manage rehearsal schedules, auditions, and student progress tracking.
Qualifications:
• Strong piano proficiency for accompanying rehearsals and lessons.
• Knowledge of various vocal techniques and musical theater styles.
• Experience in music directing for stage productions, including working with student actors and pit musicians.
• Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Passion for mentoring students and fostering a love for vocal music.
Preferred Skills:
• Orff, Kodály, or Voice training.
• Experience arranging and adapting vocal music for different skill levels.
• Familiarity with recording technology and digital music platforms.
• Ability to develop outreach or community engagement opportunities through music.
Part-time Lower School Music Teacher (PreK–6th Grade)
The Donoho School is a private school dedicated to academic excellence, character development, and fostering a love for the arts. We seek a passionate and dynamic Elementary Music Teacher to inspire young students through engaging and developmentally appropriate music instruction.
Job Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum for students in PreK–6th grade.
• Teach general music classes, incorporating singing, movement, rhythm, and instrumental activities.
• Introduce students to various musical styles, cultures, and historical contexts.
• Direct and prepare students for performances, concerts, and special school events.
• Foster a joyful and inclusive classroom environment that nurtures creativity and a love for music.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate music into cross-curricular learning experiences.
• Maintain and organize classroom instruments, materials, and resources.
• Assess and track student progress, providing feedback to students and parents as needed.
• Uphold the values and mission of the school while engaging with the school community.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (Master’s preferred
• State teaching certification (or willingness to obtain, if required).
• Experience teaching music at the elementary level, preferably in a private or independent school setting.
• Proficiency in teaching vocal music, basic instrumental instruction, and music literacy.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to organize and lead student performances.
• Passion for working with young children and fostering their love for music.
Preferred Skills:
• Orff, Kodály, or Dalcroze training/certification.
• Piano and/or guitar proficiency.
• Experience with technology in music education.
• Ability to lead a school choir or instrumental ensemble.
