PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Director of Operations is a member of the senior management team. Primary responsibilities fall into three categories:
Concert Production – 50%
Event Management – 10%
Facilities Oversite – 40%
In all areas, lead the department in the development and adherence to all budgets within your purview.
KEY AREAS OF FOCUS
Concert Production
Oversee and support the Production team, providing leadership and direction that properly equip team members to be fully engaged, effective and successful in their execution of production elements.
Ensure that agreement and rider obligations are carried out according to contractual obligations.
Balance the consistent delivery of high-quality concert experiences for our audiences and artists. Foster lasting and positive impressions on visiting artists within budgetary guidelines.
Event Management
Supervise and support the Event Manager and team in the facilitation of artist hospitality needs, internal donor stewardship events and campus and community users of the Center.
Lead negotiations for long-term agreements with outside event services and contractors for food and beverage services.
Facilities Oversite
Maintain the facility planning calendar, negotiating and balance MCPA needs with Greenwood School of Music, President’s Office and outside users.
Serve as one of the primary contacts with Greenwood School of Music leadership.
Serve as primary contact with OSU Facility Maintenance and Landscape teams to ensure maintenance items are addressed and effectively corrected in a timely manner.
Serve as primary contact with contracted housekeeping services, currently ABM, to ensure proper and timely cleaning of all areas of the Center.
Develop both short and long-term goals with respect to capital improvements for the facility.
The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts is a world-class destination for the arts dedicated to attracting celebrated national and international programs with notable performing arts productions and artists. The McKnight Center is an expression of Oklahoma State University’s commitment to the arts to inspire and transform lives through artistic excellence, creative experiences, and impactful learning opportunities.
The McKnight Center opened to the public in October 2019 with three separate performances of the New York Philharmonic. Under the baton of Music Director Jaap van Zweden, the New York Philharmonic’s week-long performance and teaching residency set the stage for The McKnight Center to attract world-class performances and be a catalyst for culture and growth for Oklahoma State University and Stillwater.Â
The 63,000-square foot McKnight Center for the Performing Arts features state-of-the-art technology. A multi-purpose theater with 1,098 seats and a 217-seat recital hall serve as the primary performance spaces, both designed with optimum listening environments including variable acoustic systems and the latest in high-definition projection capabilities. A scenic outdoor plaza, designed to accommodate up to 1,500 people, is equipped with an oversized LED wall to simulcast McKnight Center performances to the plaza as well as broadcast a wide variety of content from across the globe in surround sound.
A $50-million programming endowment allows the Center to curate a diverse programming mix of world-class performers, including artists in classical, pop, jazz, and family programs. Touring productions of dance, theater and Broadway are also presented regularly. Â
The McKnight Center, incorporated as a stand-alone 501c3 organization, is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees. The facility, owned by Oklahoma State University, is operated separately by this independent non-profit corporation. Â
Education & Certifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Music Business, Technical Theater, Arts Administration or similar.
Knowledge of a wide array of music, performing and visual arts will be a contributing factor to success.
Experience:
At least three years of senior-level leadership in venue, orchestra, opera or a Broadway house.
Proven track record for successful team building and development of effective institutional culture.
