Reporting to the Head of Middle & Upper School, the Director of Performing Arts would be a full-time, exempt faculty position with a start date of August 14, 2025.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Â
Build an intentionally inclusive community, demonstrate cross-cultural competency and empathy, and promote sustained culturally responsive education
Teach and assess Middle & Upper School Performing Arts classes each trimester
Along with the performing arts team, select mission-aligned pieces for three major productions each year
Direct and manage three major productions each yearÂ
Manage production budgets & sales each year
Organize rehearsals, design meetings, and production meetings (requires some evening and weekend hours)
Ensure safe, organized, and efficient working areas in all Barrie Theatrical facilities, including the theatre, shop, and costumes closet
Support the implementation and supervision of technical elements, including set, lighting, sound, props, costumes, design, etc.
Guide and support a group of 8-10 students as a Middle or Upper School advisor
Work with the Student Support Team to make sure that all students’ needs are met
Foster proactive, transparent communications with families to support students
Participate in required evening and/or weekend school functions such as Back to Barrie Night, Open Houses, Extended Study Week Showcase, GraduationÂ
Perform chaperoning and staff duties as assigned
Lead and/or support two week-long Experiential Education programs (may require overnight travel)
Participate fully in the life of the Middle and Upper School
We seek candidates who possess
An undergraduate degree (advanced degree preferred)
A background in education, with at least three years of teaching experience with young people in drama
Experience directing theatre and musical theatre productions
Experience as a practicing artist
Flexibility, creativity, a collaborative spirit, a sense of humor, and commitment to building rapport with colleagues across the Middle and Upper School
Ability and interest in technical theater highly desirable but not required.
